Roses

According to fossil records, roses have been around for about 35 million years. Garden cultivation began around 5000 years ago, and in the late 18th century, cultivated roses were introduced to Europe from China. Most modern roses' lineage can be traced back to these. Roses are incredibly varied in color and type, so they rate their own category on this site. The roses on this page were found in California, Oregon or England.

As a professional musician and choir accompanist, I thought it would be appropriate to see what roses look like on my piano. Here's one of the results. This would make a great card for a musician.

This is one of my favorite roses. The center bud is the focus with the rest of the flowers and petals feeling like a "bed of roses".

One of the most beautiful buds I've ever seen, I enjoy the rich color and the petals' ruffled edges. Is it yellow or orange? Or in between?

This is a rare variety of rose we found in England. It is also one of our most popular shots. We enjoy the brilliant color and white edging of the rose against the stone wall. Kris likes the picture vertical (rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise), but I like it horizontal. Looks good either way!

This rose is pure white. It's almost as if the open flower is the leader telling all the buds that it's OK to bloom now. This was one of my first photos.

I gasped when I saw this picture for the first time - couldn't believe how brilliant it came out. The sun was almost in my eyes and I had a difficult time seeing what I was exactly shooting. Talk about serendipitous! It has become one of my favorites and is also our top seller.

This beautiful rose looks like it is trying to stretch its wings and fly. I love the salmon colors against the bluish green of the leaves.
